One of the most famous mining areas in the world is a 500 yard dike and quartz vein system that sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Mariposa County. The area has three very notable gold mines including the Colorado Quartz Gold Mine, The Artru Gold Mine, and the Mockingbird Gold Mine. All three of these gold mines have closed and it has been many years since any new gold came from this unique location.
