One of my best from this location. The contrast of black arsenopyrite and lustrous yellow gold is quite stunning on this natural gold crystal specimen from the Oriental Gold Mine in the Allegheny Mining District of California. To see gold in arsenopyrite is exceptionally rare. Even more rare is to see the gold this well crystalized. I recently acquired a handful of these brilliant specimens from this historic location and these were part of the Donald Dickey private collection (lifelong owner of the Oriental Mine). Donald Dickey was ahead of his time in preserving gold specimens from the mine and most gold from the Mother Load was melted into bullion.
